Establishment of B.Sc. Livestock Extension at Fudutsinma

 

  • INTRODUCTION:

The Federal University Dutsin-Ma has introduced a unique innovative and pragmatic approach to extension staff development .This hands –on experiential training programme for Livestock Extension is aimed at training a corps of frontline extension agents with enhanced training in livestock production for the sole purpose of providing extension services to livestock farmers, pastoralist and agro-pastoralist in the Northern part of Nigeria in particular.

  • OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME:

The main objective of the programme is to produce qualified more practice oriented front-line Livestock Extension workers in response to the needs in the area of Agricultural Extension service delivery while the specific objectives are to:

  • Train the frontline mid-carrier extension workers who are holders of HND in Agriculture and serving extension workers in both Government and Private organizations.
  • Upgrade the academic and professional capacities of the extension staff by providing them with current theoretical and practical knowledge that makes them meet the challenges of an ever increasing and complex issues in agricultural development.

3. 0.  TITLE OF THE DEGREE: B.SC. LIVESTOCK EXTENSION
4.0. TARGET CANDIDATES
The programme is targeted at training serving mid- career extension workers who possess Higher Diploma, ND and NCE with at least 4 years working experience. The potential participants will be drawn mainly from the University’s catchment areas of Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states, other northern states and the country at large.
5.0. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
For admission in to the programme, the candidate must possess the following minimum requirements.

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in any field of Agriculture such as Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Animal Production, Animal Health, Home Economics, Fisheries, Food Science, Forestry and Wildlife management with a minimum of lower credits
  • Satisfy the University general entry requirement i.e. at least 5 ‘0’ level credits in not more than two sittings in the following subjects:  English language, Mathematics or  any  other 3 from Biology or any field of Agriculture , Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics Food and nutrition and Home Management.
  • Possess a minimum of four (4) years field experience in extension work.
  • Be nominated and sponsored by his or her employer

6.0. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
In order to be eligible for the award of the degree of B.Sc. Livestock extension, a candidate must satisfy the following

  • Earn a minimum of 80 credits to include all compulsory and elective courses throughout the three year duration
  • Candidates must consistently obtain a minimum cumulative grade points average (CGPA) of 1.50 at the end of each year of the programme

7.0PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATIONAND PAYMENT:
All interested candidates are advised to follow the procedures below:
1.Visit our application portal at http://portal.fudutsinma.edu.ng.
Locate and click Start Application at the bottom left corner of the page to start your    application.
2. Fill and submit the “APPLICATION FORM”.
3. A “PaymentTtransaction Slip” is generated for you. On it, you will find your unique Transaction ID for making payments, as well as your Application Form Number.
4.Print a copy of your Payment Transaction Slip, and proceed to pay a non-refundable fee of   N5,300 (Five thousand, three hundred naira only) using the payment procedure highlighted below.
PAYMENT PROCEDURE

  • Log on unto www.remita.net.
  • Click on the “ PAY A GOVERNMENT AGENCY” box which redirects you to a new page.
  • On the ‘Name of MDA’ box type FEDERAL UNIVERSITY DUTSINMA
  • On the ‘Name Service/Purpose’ click on the drop box and select SAFE Application Form’ option.
  • On the ‘Amount to pay’ a non- refundable fee of five thousand three hundred naira(5,300.00) only.
  • On the’ Purpose’ box type ‘SAFE Application Form’ complete the form and print.

Proceed to any of the Commercial Banks and make payments through remita.
5. Candidates are advised to come along with printed Transaction ID from the portal and evidence of payment from the bank for presentation to the University’s Bursary Department for collection of the University receipt on the screening exercise date.
6. Return to the portal(http://portal.fudutsinma.edu.ng/ application) after collection of receipt of receipt, enter your application Form Number and e-mai[ address to continue your application.
7. Complete and submit the full application form with accurate data.
Application forms for the B. Sc. Livestock Extension programme is available for sale    ……… bank, download the application form from the University’s website at www. Fudutsinma.edu.ng, fill and submit to the University for Registration.
8.0. ADMISSION QUOTA.
For convenience and close interaction between the students and the lecturers bearing in mind that the Programme is practical oriented, the number of students to be admitted each session will be limited to 25.
9.0. DURATION OF   PROGRAMME
In view of the fact that candidates for the programme are Higher National Diploma (HND) with professional field experience, the emphasis of this training will be on development of practical skills. For this reason, a period of five (5) semesters is recommended for the programme as follows:
The first 3 semesters of the programme will be mainly on course work which will cover basic agricultural disciplines of Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science, Fisheries, Wildlife and Food Science and Technology.
The next semester of the Programme will be devoted to more to the planning and execution of Supervised Enterprise Projects (SEPs). Students will be required to return to their employers’ work places to undertake the SEPs under the joint supervision of the Faculty of Agriculture and the employers/sponsors.
In the last one semester students will return to campus to continue with their course work as well as write and defend their SEPs in a seminar session before graduating/
10.0. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.
