Quick answer:<\/strong> On 29 June 2026 the Federal Executive Council approved the biggest overhaul of the NYSC since 1973<\/strong>. The headline changes are a six-week orientation camp<\/strong> (up from three weeks), the scrapping of the Passing Out Parade (POP)<\/strong> in favour of a graduation ceremony, 11 specialised skills streams<\/strong>, a civilian Director-General<\/strong>, a redesigned uniform and security-based postings. The reforms still need an NYSC Act amendment<\/strong> before they take effect — so no start date has been fixed yet, and they will not<\/strong> apply to current or past corps members.<\/p>\n

\nStatus (as of July 2026):<\/strong> Approved by the Federal Executive Council; the Attorney-General and the Ministry of Youth Development have been directed to begin amending the NYSC Act and its regulations. An exact start date has not been announced.<\/strong> The reforms are not retroactive<\/strong> — corps members already serving or who have finished service continue under the current rules.
