2024/2025 Ian McLaren Memorial Scholarship at The University of Waikato, New Zealand
The Ian McLaren Memorial Scholarship was instituted in 2017 to provide support for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Education at the University of Waikato. Professor McLaren was a long-serving member of the Education faculty and played a pivotal role in the establishment of both the three-year teaching program and, subsequently, the Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree. He also played a pivotal role in the merger of Hamilton Teachers’ College with The University of Waikato. In 1993, Professor McLaren was conferred the title of Professor Emeritus. One scholarship is awarded annually. The funds are held in trust by the University of Waikato Foundation, and the Scholarship will be available until the depletion of these funds, which is anticipated to occur around the year 2025. The Scholarship offers financial support to an undergraduate student who can effectively articulate the connection between their aspirations and interests and the broader context of education and a future-oriented society.
