It is a doctoral <strong>&ldquo;sandwich&rdquo; research grant<\/strong>: Nigerian PhD students who are <strong>at least two years into a doctorate at a Nigerian university<\/strong> go to a US university to carry out part of their research, fully funded by the US Department of State. Master&rsquo;s and first-degree applicants are not eligible on this track.<\/p><p>The 2026\/2027 competition <strong>closed on 1 June 2026<\/strong>. The next cycle has not been announced; recent cycles opened around February &mdash; watch the US Embassy Nigeria website.
