The meaning of awaiting results as often used by prospective tertiary institution students in Nigeria refer to results of some certificate examination that is yet to be released, which is being “waited for”. For instance, a candidate may be waiting for WAEC, NECO, GCE, NABTEB, etc results and it is customary to say that such results are being ‘awaited’.
To stress further, if such candidate is applying for admission into a university (per say), he/she can then choose Awaiting Result (A.R) to inform the school of interest that such result (qualifications) will be submitted in due time. This post should be of help to candidates asking questions like does UNIBEN accept awaiting result? does UNILORIN accept awaiting result? does OAU accept awaiting result? does UNIZIK accept awaiting result? does UNILAG accept awaiting result? does FUNAAB accept awaiting result?, etc.
Reasons why people wait for results
Release of results from Senior School Certificate Examinations, SSCEs, whether WAEC, NECO or NABTEB takes an average of about 3 months from the date examination was taken. This is as opposed to Computer Based Tests whose results are seen almost immediately. Candidates who took such SSCEs and who wish to apply for admission into University, Polytechnic or College of Education are therefore often at the mercy of such schools to accept them pending when the result is available. In some cases, the the results may have been seized (withheld) and the Applicant is hopeful they will be released someday, hence he/she selects awaiting results.
Some Schools ‘Accept’ it…
Major Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria accept awaiting results during post UTME registration, but don’t be tricked to think you will be allowed to start school and bring the result on a later date or years to come. From what obtains in our schools, the maximum you can use awaiting result is from the time of online registration for screening to the time for payment of admission acceptance fee. This means you must provide that result you claim is being awaited for you to become a true student. Don’t panic if you are sitting for your examination now (May/June – WAEC & June/July NECO), the result should be out before admission season is open.
Universities that accept Awaiting Results
- University of Maiduguri
- Kogi State University
- ABTI-American University
- Most State Universities
- All State Polytechnics
- Some Federal Polytechnics
- All private Universities
- Some Federal Universities.
- Etc.
It does affect one’s admission
There has been several cases of a candidate being offered admission only to be denied such intake because he/she failed to provide the A.R within specified time interval. If you are reading this and have chosen AR during your application (UTME or Direct Entry – DE) into any school; kindly make sure the result is ready latest September this year or you have forfeit the provisional offer of admission.
The best thing for every student to do is clear all o’level result problems first before attempting to seek admission into the university/polytechnic or college. It’s better to be ready than half-ready! Feel free to ask any question you may have regarding awaiting results below. We are hopeful you now know the meaning of meaning of awaiting results.
