Following the brutalisation of Victor Tobin, the management of Rivers State University has announced the suspension of Man ‘O’ War personnel involved in the unfortunate act. Recall that Tobin Victor, a 300 level student of the varsity was severely brutalised by some persons of the security outfit. Read the full story with respect to the brutality here.
The unfair treatment of this student resulted in a mass protest that grounds academic activities in the school. The school management has to sit and their final resolution was brought to the public through her acting Registrar in a statement. The statement issued read thus;
“This is to notify parents and the general public that the Management of the Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, at its meeting held on Friday 14th June, 2024, approved the suspension of the following students:
- Monsi Baridukaka Nwaaelibabari, Department of Mechanical Engineering
- Victor Chibuike Daniel, Department of Animal Science
- Ezems Ikechukwu Goodluck, Department of Electrical Engineering
- Wilson Jacob Ree-Ugani, Department of Marine Engineering.
The students who are members of the Man O’ War, were suspended by the Management of the University, for assaulting and inflicting physical injury on Victor Tobin, a 300 level student of the Department of Sociology, on 12th June, 2024 at Hostel F in the University Campus.
Management saw the actions of the four students as contrary to the regulations of the University, and as such, approved their suspension for one academic session.
The Management enjoined the student population to continue to live in peace and harmony and comply scrupulously with all the rules and regulations of the University.

It is quite appalling to discover that the Man ‘O’ War personnel involved in this devillish act are equally students of the same institution. What a pity? Nigerians against Nigerians simply because of uniform. Now Nigerian students against one of their kind. Some will blame it on education; saying that our security personnel lacks adequate education. But, here we are, all the Man ‘O’ War personnel are students of a tertiary institution yet they fail to discharge their duties professionally. Lets continue to say no to brutality.
