Editorial Policy: How SchoolNews Verifies Information

The short version: if we cannot verify a fact against an official source, we do not publish it. No invented fees, no guessed cut-off marks, no “call this agent” numbers.

How we verify what we publish

SchoolNews covers admissions, fees, exams and NYSC — decisions where wrong information costs real money. So every checkable fact on this site follows one rule: accurate or absent.

• Official sources first. Fees, cut-off marks, admission dates and requirements come from the institution’s own portal, JAMB, NYSC, or the relevant regulator — not from other blogs. Where we cite accreditation status, it comes from the published lists of the NUC (universities), NMCN (nursing and midwifery) and NCCE (colleges of education).
• If it isn’t published, we say so. Many schools do not publish their fees online. Where that is the case, we tell you to confirm with the bursary instead of quoting a number someone made up.
• We label the cycle. Anything that changes yearly (fees, timetables, cut-offs) is tied to a session, e.g. “2026/2027”, and we point you to the official portal to confirm before you pay anything.

Anti-scam policy

Nigerian admission search results are full of fake “agents”, fee-charging middlemen and cloned school websites. Our standing policy:

• We only link application portals we have verified as the institution’s own. If a school’s website is dead or compromised, we say that and direct you to the registrar instead.
• We never publish agent phone numbers, and no one can pay to be recommended on this site. Sponsored content, if any, is clearly labelled.
• Nobody can “influence” your admission, posting or deployment for a fee. Any page telling you otherwise is a scam — including if it pretends to be us.

Updates and corrections

Pages show their last-updated date. We re-verify time-sensitive facts when a new cycle opens, and we correct errors as soon as we confirm them. Spotted something wrong or outdated? Use the feedback button on any page or the contact page — reader reports go straight to the editors and genuinely get read.
