Happy Independence Day Celebrations

School News Nigeria wishes everyone a happy independence day celebrations. But as we all celebrate Nigeria’s 57th year of independence, marking how far we have come as a nation, let us remember that there is still a lot to do. We cannot rest on our laurels if Nigeria is to reach the heights envisioned by our founding fathers, when Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa declared Nigeria an independent nation on October 1, 1960. Thus, we will be well served to abide by these words from the legendary Nelson Mandela:
“I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended.”
