About
Quick answer: Chevening is the UK government’s flagship scholarship: a fully funded one-year Master’s at any eligible UK university. Applications for 2027/28 are open to Nigerians now and close on 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC (12 noon Nigerian time) at asams.chevening.org/apply. It is free to apply.
You apply to Chevening first, then to three UK courses; you need an unconditional offer from at least one by the date on the Chevening timeline (mid-2027). Nothing about this process costs money except university application fees, where charged.
Eligibility
- Nigerian citizen who will return to Nigeria for at least two years after the scholarship.
- An undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK Master’s, completed at least two years before the deadline.
- At least two years’ work experience after your first degree, equivalent to 2,800 hours (paid, voluntary or internships count).
- Apply to three different eligible UK courses.
- Not eligible if you hold British or dual British citizenship, live in the UK when applying, work for the UK government, British Council or a Chevening partner, or have already studied in the UK on a UK-government scholarship.
