The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin-Ekiti (FUTES-IYIN), has warned students against indecent dressing.
The university said it would maintain standards on discipline, decent dressing and good moral conduct.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, stated this during a courtesy visit by the League of Imams and Alfas.
The delegation was led by Sheikh Bello Kewulere, Chief Imam of Ado-Ekiti and President-General of the League.
The League represents Imams and Alfas across the Southwest, Edo and Delta states, according to the university.
FUTES-IYIN Restates Dressing Policy
Aribisala said students would be expected to comply with the university’s regulations on appearance and conduct.
Reiterating the institution’s position, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Good dressing and good moral conduct will be maintained.”
He added that indecent dressing would not be accommodated within the institution.
The university’s position forms part of its stated commitment to discipline and character development among students.
Aribisala also linked the issue of student conduct to the institution’s plan for residential education.
University Plans Fully Residential System
The Vice-Chancellor said FUTES-IYIN plans to become a fully residential institution.
According to him, the proposed arrangement would provide a stronger environment for discipline and responsible behaviour. He said it would also support the nurturing of good values among students.
Aribisala further disclosed that the university would consider allowing religious activities on campus from the next academic session.
He, however, said such activities would be subject to the university’s regulations. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the delegation for its visit and prayers.
He also attributed the progress of the university to God, according to the university’s account of the meeting.
League Seeks Stronger University Engagement
Earlier, Kewulere commended the university management for promoting good character, discipline and inclusiveness. He said the delegation visited to strengthen its relationship with the institution.
The League also sought areas of mutual support, particularly in promoting responsible conduct among students.
Kewulere urged the university to sustain its standards on dressing and character development.
He also called for a communication channel between the institution and the Muslim community.
According to him, such a channel would facilitate regular engagement between both sides.
The delegation also offered prayers for the Vice-Chancellor and his management team.
The prayers sought guidance, wisdom and protection as the university pursues its development objectives.
The League further prayed for the institution’s contribution to the educational and socio-economic development of Ekiti State and Nigeria.
