NOUN Course Registration and Exam Slip: Semester Steps and Deadlines

NOUN course registration for the 2026_2 semester runs from 22 June to 5 October 2026. The order is fixed: fund your e-wallet, pay the semester registration fee, register your courses (every compulsory course plus at least one elective, up to 24 credit units), register the same courses for exams, then print your registration slip, which doubles as your exam clearance.

Before you start

• Money in the wallet. Add up the compulsory semester fee (₦18,000 for returning undergraduates, ₦55,500 for new ones in their first semester) plus ₦2,000 to ₦3,000 per course and ₦1,500 exam fee per course. The fee estimator gives you the exact figure. Load it once, as one RRR, rather than in pieces.
• Your registrable courses. On nou.edu.ng pick your faculty, then department, and click List of courses to see the registrable courses from 100 to 400 level. The same list pops up on your portal; your study centre’s faculty desk officer also has it.
• Login working. Portal address, password reset and wallet loading are in the NOUN student portal guide.

Step 1: register the semester

1. Log in at nouonline.nou.edu.ng, close the pop-up calendar, click Home then Registration.
2. Select Semester Registration.
3. Check the details shown, including how many semesters you have done and the fee lines, and submit. The wallet is debited and the semester is activated.

Returning after a break? Activate the portal for the current session first; the FAQ calls this “returning to continue your studies”. Students who skipped semesters owe the semester registration for the sessions they missed before the portal opens course registration.

Step 2: register courses

1. From Registration click Register courses.
2. Tick the courses for your level. The rules: every compulsory course, at least one elective, and no more than 24 credit units in the semester.
3. Submit and confirm. Each course is charged at ₦2,000 (2 units), ₦2,500 (3 units) or ₦3,000 (4-unit Law courses).

Admitted into 300 level but seeing 100 level courses? Do not register them. Raise an e-ticket under Academic Registry with your admission letter so the level is corrected first.

Step 3: register for exams

1. Click Register courses for exam.
2. Tick the courses you will sit this semester and click Submit, then confirm.
3. Each course costs ₦1,500. A practical course shows ₦6,500 because ₦5,000 is the practical component verified by your faculty.

You can register a course and defer its exam to a later semester, but you cannot sit an exam for a course you did not register for exams.

Step 4: print your registration slip

Once the courses show as registered, print the slip from Registration → View Registration Slip; the full portal walkthrough is in the NOUN student portal guide. Invigilators check this slip at pen-on-paper exams and it is what the study centre uses to clear you. Some centres also ask for the e-clearance form: download it from the portal, complete Section A, attach a passport photograph, scan it with the registration slip and email it to the centre before the exam window.

Dropping or changing a course

Once registered, an examinable course can only be dropped at your study centre. See the ICT officer there; it cannot be done from the portal. Changing your programme or entry level also starts at the study centre and is confirmed through an e-ticket.

Matriculation and the matriculation list

New students are matriculated once, in the semester they are admitted. The 2026_2 orientation is on 8 September and matriculation on 9 September 2026, at study centres. Your name appears on the matriculation list once your first-semester fees are paid and the semester is registered; the matric number that comes with it is your portal login for the rest of the programme. Deadlines and late registration

The portal adds a late-registration fee after the regular registration period; the amount is shown in the portal notice. The bigger cost of registering late is the TMAs: a course appears on eLearn two working days after you register it, and TMA windows do not reopen.
