The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the launch of several undergraduate programmes at the University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State. The approval takes effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.
Accordingly, the decision followed a successful resource verification and academic assessment exercise. As a result, the university met all statutory requirements for programme commencement.
NUC Approval and Admission Quota
The approval was communicated in a letter dated December 29, 2025. The letter was addressed to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to the NUC, the institution satisfied all conditions for the establishment of the programmes. Consequently, the approved courses were assigned a combined admission quota of 800 students.
Furthermore, the Commission requested JAMB to note the programmes for student mobilization and admissions processing.
Science, Computing and Law Programmes
Under the Faculty of Science and Computing, three programmes received approval. These are Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science, and Cyber Security.
Each programme will lead to the award of a Bachelor of Science degree. Importantly, the courses align with Nigeria’s growing digital and technology needs.
Meanwhile, the Faculty of Law received approval to commence the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) programme.
This approval expands the university’s professional and legal education offerings.
Medical, Social and Management Sciences
In addition, the Faculty of Basic Medical and Allied Health Sciences gained approval for three programmes. They include Public Health (B.Sc.), Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.), and Radiology (B.Rad.).
Similarly, the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences recorded the highest number of approvals.
The faculty will offer Accounting, Finance, and Economics. It will also run International Relations and Criminology and Security Studies.
Other approved programmes include Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Furthermore, Project Management, Procurement Management, and Intelligence and Security Studies were approved.
Official Endorsement
The approval letter was signed by Abubakar M. Girei. He is the Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC. He signed the letter on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission.
Therefore, the approval carries full regulatory authority. Overall, the development strengthens the University of Fortune’s academic portfolio. It also reflects the NUC’s mandate to ensure quality and relevance in Nigerian university education.
