What Oduduwa University accommodation is like

OUI does not run a single central hostel. Instead there are several named halls of residence. Some are inside the campus, others are in Ife Town (including buildings on the old Polytechnic, Ile-Ife site, which is a sister institution). The key things to know:

• Rooms are shared. Most halls put 2 or 3 students in a room. A few single-occupancy rooms exist (for example, Adetola Hall) and cost more.
• Halls are single-gender. Each hall is designated male-only or female-only, and most are reserved for OUI students specifically.
• On-campus vs. Ife Town. Halls marked “Inside OUI” are on the university grounds; others are a short distance away in Ife Town.
• Each hostel has its own bank account. You pay hostel fees separately from tuition, into the account listed for that specific hall, then collect your receipt from the OUI Bursary (or TPI Bursary for polytechnic-shared halls).

Official OUI hostel fees (per session)

The table below lists the student halls open to OUI students, as published on the university’s Schedule of Fees. Fees are quoted per session (one session is two semesters) unless stated otherwise. The published schedule does not print an academic session year, so treat these as the university’s standing rates and confirm the figure for your session with the Bursary before paying.

Other halls and shared options

A few halls are open to a mix of OUI students, Polytechnic (TPI) students or outsiders, and are usually cheaper. Availability changes, so ask the Bursary which halls have space:

What is provided and the hostel rules

From the university’s published hostel notes:

• Cooking in the hostel is not allowed. Campus and town canteens sell meals, with food priced roughly ₦100 to ₦300 per plate.
• You bring your own extras. A refrigerator, DSTV and similar personal appliances are allowed, but attract an extra charge of about ₦10,000 per semester.
• Receipts come from the Bursary. After paying into the correct hostel account, take your bank teller to the OUI Bursary (or TPI Bursary for polytechnic halls) to collect your receipt and confirm your bed space.

Is a hostel compulsory for freshers?

Older OUI accommodation notices stated that hostel was compulsory for fresh students, with a hostel-exemption fee payable alongside school fees if you chose to live off-campus. The current published schedule does not repeat that rule or an exemption amount. Because this directly affects what you must pay, confirm with the OUI Bursary or Student Affairs whether hostel is compulsory for your intake, and what any exemption costs, before you pay tuition.

How to pay OUI hostel fees safely

Accommodation is a common target for fraud. Follow the university’s own instructions:

• Pay hostel fees on a separate teller from your school fees, into the exact bank account listed for that hall on the official schedule.
• Pay into the bank yourself. Do not hand cash to any staff member, student or “hostel agent.” If a parent pays, your own name (not the parent’s) must be written on the teller.
• Keep your customer copy of the teller and take it for confirmation before completing anything online.
• If anyone asks you to pay outside the official accounts, report it. The university tells students to email the address on its fee schedule or text 08056565656 to report such requests.
