RSU Opens Supplementary Admission for 2026/2027, Sets September 6 Deadline

Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has opened applications for supplementary admission for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The exercise provides another opportunity for candidates who could not secure admission into their preferred programmes. In particular, it targets candidates who did not meet the Merit and Catchment Area cut-off marks.

The University Management announced the exercise in a notice signed by the Registrar, Dr. Idanyingi I. Daminabo. Candidates are advised to carefully consider the available programmes before submitting their applications.

RSU Supplementary Admission: Programmes Excluded

According to the notice, supplementary applications are available for eligible undergraduate programmes offered by the university. However, some highly competitive programmes have been excluded from the exercise.

The excluded programmes are Law, Medicine and Surgery, Nursing, Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering.

Therefore, candidates interested in other eligible programmes can explore the available options through the university’s Candidate Application Portal. RSU has used a similar approach in previous supplementary admission exercises, where only specified programmes were advertised for supplementary admission.

Who Can Apply for the Supplementary Admission?

The exercise is mainly for candidates who participated in the university’s admission process but did not meet the required Merit or Catchment Area cut-off for their chosen programmes.

Such candidates can select from other programmes available under the supplementary exercise. However, they must satisfy the relevant admission requirements for their selected programmes.

Candidates should also ensure that their UTME subject combinations and O’Level qualifications meet the requirements. RSU’s previous official supplementary notices similarly require candidates to have the correct UTME subject combination and the required O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

Important JAMB CAPS Change of Programme Notice

RSU has also issued a clarification concerning candidates who changed their programmes through the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

According to the university, only candidates who changed their programmes on JAMB CAPS on or before July 4, 2026, before the release of the cut-off marks, were considered by the Senate Admission Committee.

Candidates who effected programme changes after July 4 are advised to proceed with the supplementary application. This is particularly important for applicants who changed their preferred programmes after the specified date.

RSU Supplementary Admission Deadline

The university has fixed Sunday, September 6, 2026, as the deadline for the supplementary admission application.

Candidates are therefore advised to complete their applications before the closing date. Waiting until the final day could expose applicants to possible network or technical difficulties.

Applicants should also review their programme choices carefully before submitting their forms. They should ensure that all information supplied during registration is accurate and consistent with their JAMB records.

How to Apply for RSU Supplementary Admission

Candidates interested in the exercise should access the RSU Candidate Application Portal through the university’s official website.

Applicants should follow the instructions provided on the portal and complete the required stages of the application. They should also retain evidence of their registration and any payment made during the process.

Candidates are strongly advised to use only the university’s official platforms. They should avoid unofficial websites, agents or individuals claiming to process the application on RSU’s behalf.

RSU’s previous official supplementary-admission notices have similarly directed candidates to use the university website for application and payment.

What Candidates Should Know

The 2026/2027 supplementary admission exercise gives eligible RSU aspirants another opportunity to pursue admission into the university.

However, candidates should understand that the exercise does not cover all programmes. Law, Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and the listed Engineering programmes are excluded.

Candidates who changed their programmes on JAMB CAPS after July 4, 2026, are also advised to apply through the supplementary registration.

Most importantly, applicants should select only programmes for which they meet the relevant requirements. They should also complete their applications before September 6, 2026, to avoid missing the opportunity.
