UNILAG Releases Step-by-Step Guidelines for 2026/2027 Postgraduate Admission Applications

The University of Lagos has released detailed application procedures for candidates seeking admission into its postgraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The institution, through its School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), said applications are open for Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes across different faculties and departments.

According to the university, the sale of application forms commenced on April 7, 2026, while the application portal will close on July 24, 2026. Completed forms are expected to be submitted online not later than July 31, 2026.

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

The university stated that interested applicants must possess relevant qualifications from recognised institutions before applying.

Candidates applying for Master’s degree programmes are generally required to hold a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum acceptable grade, while Ph.D. applicants are expected to possess a Master’s degree in related disciplines.

UNILAG also noted that applicants awaiting results are not eligible for the admission exercise. Prospective candidates are equally required to provide academic transcripts, O’Level results and NYSC certificates or exemption letters where applicable.

The institution advised candidates seeking admission into M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes to confirm the availability of supervisors in their proposed departments before proceeding with applications.

Step-by-Step Application Process

The university outlined the following procedures for applicants:

1. Visit the official SPGS portal through UNILAG School of Postgraduate Studies Portal.

2. Click on the admission application link and create an account using a valid email address.

3. Generate a payment invoice and proceed to pay the prescribed application fee through the approved payment channels.

4. Return to the portal after payment confirmation to complete the application form.

5. Upload required documents, including academic certificates, passport photograph, transcripts and NYSC documents where necessary.

6. Carefully review all entries before final submission of the application.

7. Print out the completed application slip for reference purposes.

Modes of Study and Available Programmes

UNILAG disclosed that available study options include Full-Time, Part-Time, Executive and Open Distance Learning (ODL) modes, depending on the programme and department.
