UNIPORT Post UTME: Common Mistakes That can Cost Some Candidates Their  Admission

Many have chosen University of Port Harcourt as their prefered institution to embark on undergraduate programmes. And after scaling through the stormy waters of JAMB, they are now gearing up for Post-UTME. 

Over the years, it’s been recorded that some seemly harmless mistakes has cost some students their admission. So, pay attention as we unveil some of these pitfalls; so you can avoid it.

Costly Mistakes of Most Candidates Highlighted

As you prepare for the Post-UMTE excercise, it’s essential to recognize the most common mistake that many candidates makes. These mistakes has made some candidates to lose or be deprived of their admission. The fact is, all these mistakes or errors arises from failure to follow instructions boldly displayed on the school Post-UTME registration portal. Its unfortunate, that some persons neglects these instructions at their own detriment. At this juncture, lets take a look at the registration guide.

Registration Guide

  1. Eligible candidates are to input UTME Registration Number and confirm pre-loaded UTME details.
  2. Generate Remita code for payment with your master, visa or verve card etc OR Print out Payment Slip and proceed to any of the following Banks with Remita platform (ACCESS BANK PLC, ECOBANK PLC, FIDELITY BANK PLC, FIRST BANK PLC, FCMB, UBA PLC, AND UNIPORT-CHOBA MICROFINANCE BANK) and make payment of N2,000.00 only.
  3. Obtain a Remita receipt showing an Access Code from the Bank teller confirming the payment.
  4. Proceed back online and Login with your UTME Registration Number and the Access Code on the payment slip.
  5. Complete the Form online as requested.
  6. Upload your passport photograph with red background not more than 1 x 1 inch. (if requested)
  7. Click on the “submit button” and print Photo Card for the Screening Exercise clearance. Reprint Photo Card a day to the examination.
  8. Registration is online, therefore, candidates are not expected to be present physically on the University Campus, but advised to register from any location.

The registration guide contains a list of 14 simple instructions, from number 1 to 8 has been displayed above. The costly mistakes are as a result of failure to adhere to the remaining 6 instructions. Lets carefully x-ray these instructions. 

The Mistakes and How to Avoid it

  1. Inconsistency in name or picture on Registration Slip is not acceptable to the University and may lead to disqualification of affected candidates. Candidates’ names on their O’Level Certificates, UTME Results and other registration documents must be the same. This one of the most common mistake. Please before you proceed with the registration ensure that there is consistency in your documents.
  2. Candidates MUST be sixteen (16) years of age or above by October 2023, to be eligible for the exercise. Under-age candidate may have their admission forfeited, 16 years is the minimum in this school.
  3. Candidates must ensure that their O’Level results are uploaded to JAMB website as soon possible as those who do not, will not be considered for admission. Please ensure that your O’Level results are uploaded to JAMB website; it is very important.
  4. Note the date and time of Screening on the Photo Card. Take this seriously, as there may not be a make up screening for those who missed their screening schedule.
  5. Candidates must ensure that they register with their own valid personal telephone (GSM) numbers and email addresses. For smooth and easy communication, please use your own functional phone number and email address.
  6. Ensure to Reprint Photo Card a day to the examination.  This will help you to know if there is any last minute changes to the examination time or venue.

CONCLUSION

Neglecting simple instructions has landed a lot of persons in regretable situations. After scoring very high in JAMB, and with a very impressive performance in Post-UTME, some candidates are not given admission owing chiefly to the reasons outlined above.
