The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to student safety following the reopening of 47 Unity Colleges nationwide.
This development comes after a comprehensive review and strengthening of security measures around affected schools.
In a statement on Thursday, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Boriowo Folasade, confirmed that academic activities have fully resumed.
She noted that students have returned safely to their campuses across the country.
Moreover, the Ministry disclosed that many students are concluding their December academic programmes.
Others, meanwhile, have successfully completed their examinations, signalling a smooth academic transition.
Government Reiterates Safety Commitment
According to the statement, the safety of students remains the government’s top priority. Consequently, authorities are working closely with relevant security agencies nationwide.
“After the strengthening of security architecture within and around the affected schools, academic activities have fully resumed. Students have returned safely to their campuses, with many currently concluding their December academic programmes, while others have successfully completed their examinations.
“The Federal Ministry of Education assures parents, guardians, and the general public that the safety, welfare, and well-being of students remain a top priority. The Government continues to work closely with relevant security agencies to sustain stability and restore normalcy within school environments nationwide,” the statement said.
Furthermore, the Ministry stressed that education remains central to national development. As a result, the government is determined to prevent disruptions to the academic calenda.

Background: Why Unity Colleges Were Closed
Recall that in November, the Federal Government ordered the closure of all Federal Unity Colleges.
This decision followed heightened security concerns across parts of the country. The directive was issued by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa. It was communicated through a circular signed by Binta Abdulkadir.
According to the circular, the action was preventive in nature. Specifically, it aimed to forestall threats to students and school staff nationwide.
Ultimately, the reopening of the schools signals renewed confidence in the strengthened security framework.
