UNILORIN Promotes 13 Academic Staff to Professorial Rank

he University of Ilorin has promoted 13 academic staff members to the rank of Professor across various disciplines.

The latest promotions cut across education, medical sciences and pharmaceutical studies, with the Department of Educational Management recording the highest number of newly promoted professors.

The university disclosed the development in a statement published on its official platforms on Sunday.

Education Department Gets Five New Professors

Five academic staff members in the Department of Educational Management were elevated to the professorial rank.

They are A. T. Muritala, A. A. Lawal, A. A. Atolagbe, O. J. Ojo and A. A. Tijani.

Other academics promoted to Professor are Mary O. Ologe of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics; Hafsat A. Ameen of the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health; and Oluwabunmi I. N. Buhari of the Department of Behavioural Sciences.

The list also includes A. Saidu of the Department of Arts Education; Aminat A. Odebode and Falilat A. Okesina of the Department of Counsellor Education; A. M. Akanmu of the Department of Science Education; and S. T. Abdullahi of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Medical Chemistry.

The latest exercise brings the number of academics promoted to the rank of Professor in the listed departments to 13.

UNILORIN Records Further Academic Promotions

The latest development adds to a series of academic promotions recorded by the University of Ilorin in recent years.

In April 2026, the university announced that its Governing Council had approved the promotion of 43 academic staff to the rank of Professor and 40 others to the position of Reader.

According to the university, the recommendations were considered by its Appointments and Promotions Committee before being approved by the Governing Council. The 43 professorial promotions took effect from October 2025.

Earlier, in February 2025, the university approved the promotion of 51 academic staff to the positions of Professor and Reader. Twenty Readers were elevated to Professor, while 31 Senior Lecturers were promoted to Reader.

The 2025 exercise followed recommendations by the university’s Appointments and Promotions Committee, which were presented to the Governing Council by Vice-Chancellor Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.

Institution Continues to Expand Professorial Cadre

The latest promotion is part of the university’s continuing academic advancement process and further strengthens its professorial cadre across different fields.

In 2024, the institution had also announced the promotion of 40 senior academic staff to the rank of Professor. The university said the promotions followed recommendations by its Appointments and Promotions Committee and were approved by the then Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, SAN.

The successive promotion exercises have seen academics across education, medicine, engineering, law, sciences, social sciences, agriculture and other disciplines rise to the highest academic rank.
