Gombe State University

The management of Gombe State University (GOMSU) has released the approved admission guidelines, eligibility requirements and modalities for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The guidelines, contained in a notice signed by the Registrar, Dr. Abubakar Aliyu Bafeto, outline the conditions prospective candidates must satisfy to be considered for admission into the university.

Candidates who selected Gombe State University as their first-choice institution in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) are advised to familiarize themselves with the requirements and comply with all admission procedures as stipulated by the institution.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for admission into GOMSU, candidates are expected to:

  • Choose Gombe State University as their first-choice institution during UTME registration;
  • Meet the minimum UTME score approved by the university;
  • Possess the required O’Level qualifications for their chosen programme;
  • Satisfy departmental and faculty-specific admission requirements where applicable.

Key Admission Guidelines

Minimum Age Requirement

Candidates seeking admission into Gombe State University must be at least 16 years old on or before September 30, 2026.

However, candidates below the age of 16 may be considered under exceptional circumstances if they score 320 and above in the UTME and fulfil the conditions prescribed by the university, including the completion of the required indemnity documentation.

General UTME Cut-Off Mark

The university has approved 150 as the minimum UTME score for admission consideration for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Candidates should note that meeting the minimum cut-off mark does not automatically guarantee admission, as some programmes may require higher scores and additional admission criteria.

Direct Entry Requirements

Candidates seeking admission through Direct Entry (DE) with qualifications such as NCE, IJMB, Advanced Level GCE, Diploma, or equivalent certificates must ensure that their qualifications are relevant to their intended course of study and meet departmental admission requirements.

Admission Completion Deadline

In line with national admission guidelines, all admissions into the institution are expected to be concluded on or before October 31, 2026.

Acceptance of Admission Offer

Candidates offered admission into the university are required to accept their admission offer within four weeks of notification. Failure to do so may affect their admission status.

Registration and Screening

Eligible candidates will be required to complete the university’s admission screening process through the designated online platform and pay the prescribed screening fee as approved by the institution.

Details regarding the commencement of registration, screening schedules, portal access, and other admission activities are expected to be communicated through the university’s official channels.

Prospective applicants are therefore advised to regularly monitor official university announcements for updates.

Important Notice to Applicants

Candidates are advised to ensure that all personal information supplied during registration is accurate and consistent with their official records.

Applicants should carefully verify details such as their names, date of birth, state of origin, local government area, and examination credentials before final submission, as certain changes may not be permitted after registration has been completed.

Candidates are also encouraged to keep copies of all registration documents and supporting credentials, as they may be required during subsequent stages of the admission process.

Final Advice

Prospective students are encouraged to begin preparations early by ensuring that their academic records and admission documents are complete and up to date.

Applicants should also regularly check the university’s official communication platforms for information on screening schedules, admission lists, registration procedures, and other important announcements relating to the 2026/2027 admission exercise.
