Three years after a viral act of kindness catapulted him into the public eye, Ekuma Jeremiah Iziogo — a Lagos street hawker who once handed cash to prisoners inside a correctional service van — has graduated from Ebonyi State University with a degree in Law. Business mogul Obinna “Obi Cubana” Iyiegbu, who sponsored his education, is celebrating the milestone.
From Roadside Kindness to National Attention
In January 2022, a video of Jeremiah went viral. In it, the then-23-year-old was seen passing ₦100 notes through the bars of a correctional service van to inmates in Ajah, Lagos. The gesture, made out of his meagre hawking earnings, drew praise nationwide and sparked offers of support.
Among those moved was nightlife and hospitality entrepreneur Obi Cubana. He pledged to pay for Jeremiah’s university education, saying at the time:
“Love should be shown in our actions and not just in our words. I want him to go to school in good condition, and I would see him through the University. The most important thing is that he now has a mentor who would guide him through this tough world.”
Jeremiah chose to pursue education rather than take immediate cash — a decision that would shape his future.

“On January 19, 2022, when the offers were placed before you, you chose education! You made the best choice. Today, you are a 2025 law graduate! Congratulations Jerry, the world is yours!”
