The Northwest University Sokoto (NWUS) has officially released its approved cut-off marks for the 2026/2027 undergraduate admission exercise. The announcement, made through the institution’s Communications unit, gives prospective candidates a clearer picture of what is required for entry into various programmes.
Founded in May 2022 and situated within the Kalambaina Industrial Layout in Wammako Local Government Area of Sokoto State, NWUS is a relatively young but growing institution. It currently runs degree programmes across six faculties, covering disciplines from health sciences and law to education, computing, management, and mass communication.
Medicine and Surgery Tops the Chart at 200
According to a statement by the Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol, Abdallah El-Kurebe, Medicine and Surgery carries the steepest entry requirement of all programmes at the university, with a cut-off mark set at 200. This places it firmly above every other course on offer.
This is consistent with the broader pattern across Nigerian universities, where medical programmes routinely attract the most demanding admission requirements.
Health and Law Programmes Set Between 160 and 180
Other professional courses also demand scores above the general baseline. Common and Islamic Law requires a minimum of 180, while five health-related programmes; Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science, Doctor of Physiotherapy, Public Health, and Radiography — are each benchmarked at 160.
These programmes, spanning the university’s health sciences and law faculties, therefore require candidates to demonstrate stronger academic performance before gaining entry.
Most Programmes Pegged at 150
For the majority of NWUS programmes, however, the threshold is more broadly accessible. El-Kurebe stated that the cut-off marks “were pegged at 150 for most of the programmes, while professional and health-related courses attracted higher cut-off marks.”
Among the courses sitting at the 150 mark are Accounting, Biology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Economics, Information Technology, Library and Information Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Software Engineering, and Special Education together covering a wide range of academic interests.
