A senior lecturer at the Faculty of Management, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Dr. Samuel Ojogbo, has been accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old female student.
The 300-level student, whose name is withheld, alleged that the lecturer invited her into his office on 22 August 2025, around 12:00 noon, and “forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.” She reported the incident to the police on 28 August 2025 and was later taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
University Confirms Investigation
The university management confirmed the allegation, saying the police had already stepped in while UNILAG’s Safeguarding Centre was providing support to the student.
Spokesperson of the university, Mrs. Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, disclosed that “a panel constituted by the university to investigate the matter had commenced investigation and that its findings would be made public through the appropriate channels upon completion.”
She added: “The public is hereby assured that the university will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice for all involved.”
UNILAG’s Zero-Tolerance Policy
Reaffirming the institution’s stance, Alaga-Ibraheem stressed that UNILAG maintains “zero-tolerance on all forms of sexual harassment,” urging students and staff to “always report any form of harassment or misconduct through the designated offices in the institution.”
She assured that the university “would certainly take appropriate action on such reports.”
Background of Similar Cases
This allegation comes years after UNILAG was implicated in the 2019 Sex for Grades scandal exposed by BBC Africa Eye, which documented systemic sexual harassment in Nigerian and Ghanaian universities. More recently, the institution’s College of Medicine has also faced repeated accusations of misconduct, sparking debates on safeguarding measures across campuses.
