Two Adekunle Ajasin University Students Arrested for Alleged Drug-Facilitated Sexual Assault

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two students from Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba-Akoko, following allegations of drugging and sexually assaulting a 20-year-old female colleague.

Preliminary investigations show that the victim was invited to the home of her long-time friend, 19-year-old Queen Sodo, also a student at AAUA.

Trusting their relationship, the victim accepted a drink from Sodo. But that drink was later found to have been laced with a sedative, leaving her incapacitated.

Role of the Suspects

According to the police, once the victim lost consciousness, Sodo allegedly called in the male accomplice. She remained nearby while the assault took place.

A neighbour, alerted by strange sounds, broke in and found the victim unconscious with the male student in the room.

Evidence, including the drugged beverage, has been recovered and will undergo toxicology testing.

Legal Steps & Police Response

Both suspects have confessed to their roles and given details about their actions.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Olushola Ayanlade, said the case has been transferred to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

He also emphasised: “All offenders, regardless of their relationship with victims, will be held accountable under the law.”

What This Means & a Call to Action

This case highlights how trusted friendships can sadly be exploited for criminal ends. It also underlines the importance of vigilance—even among people we think we know well.

The police’s swift action sends a strong message about zero tolerance for gender-based violence. Members of the public, especially students and parents, are being urged to stay alert, report suspicious behaviour, and support victims in speaking out.
