The Federal Government has dismissed as false and misleading a viral report claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Ministry Denies False Report
In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education and signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, the government described the publication as “baseless, deceptive, and entirely untrue.”
The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), clarified that the report did not emanate from the Ministry. He emphasizes that JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions nationwide.
“For the avoidance of doubt, JAMB remains the only recognized institution authorized by law to regulate admission processes into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education,” the statement read.
The Minister reaffirmed that the established admission procedures through JAMB remain fully operational and binding, urging the public to disregard any contrary claims circulating online or in print.
JAMB’s Role Still Central to Admissions
Dr. Alausa emphasized the Federal Government’s unwavering confidence in JAMB’s integrity and credibility, stressing that the board continues to serve as the central platform ensuring transparency, fairness, and merit in Nigeria’s admission system.
He further noted that there has been no change whatsoever in the current admission framework. The statement assured that collaboration between the Ministry, JAMB, and other education agencies remains strong and effective.
“The Ministry remains committed to protecting the integrity of the admission process and ensuring that merit and due process guide all admissions into higher institutions,” Dr. Alausa stated.
Warning to Media and the Public
The Ministry cautioned media organizations, bloggers, and online publishers to verify all education-related information from official sources before publication. It warned that spreading falsehoods could mislead students, parents, and tertiary institutions, causing unnecessary confusion within the sector.
“The Federal Ministry of Education completely dissociates itself from this fake report and urges the general public to rely only on verified communications from the Ministry and JAMB,” the statement added.
The statement, signed by Boriowo Folasade, reaffirmed that there has been no change in JAMB’s central and indispensable role within Nigeria’s tertiary education framework. Stressing that any publication suggesting otherwise should be disregarded in its entirety.
