Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has pledged to reintroduce soft loans for teachers across the state. This includes facilities for house, car, and motorcycle purchases. The announcement was made on Tuesday during an official event in Birnin Kebbi.
At the ceremony held to inaugurate 12,779 furniture sets for schools, the governor spoke of new support measures. He said the state government would continue to address the challenges teachers face.
He told attendees, “The government of Kebbi will continue to look into the plights of our teachers.” He added: “In-Sha-Allah, by this year, 2026, we will come up with a package that teachers of primary and post-primary schools will benefit from.”
The governor further explained: “We shall soon come up with a soft loan package for teachers, this will cover: car loan, motorcycle loan and house loan, among others.” He emphasised that the initiative aims to give teachers a real sense of belonging.
He also assured that teachers would no longer be treated as second-class citizens.
New Furniture for Schools Across Kebbi
The furniture inauguration brought together government officials, educators, and community members. The new sets are for both students and teachers across primary and secondary schools in the state.
Governor Idris explained that the gesture was part of his administration’s obligation to provide adequate classroom furniture. He pledged his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment.
He said, “I want to assure the good people of Kebbi that this is just the beginning; we will continue to provide this kind of furniture for both teachers and students.” The governor also directed that the furniture be shared equally between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission.
Education Sector Praised by Officials
Earlier at the event, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Halima Bande expressed her appreciation for the governor’s dedication. She commended his holistic approach to improving education in the state.
While thanking him for his efforts, she said they were not surprised by his commitment because he comes from a teaching background. She noted: “We are happy for the projects you have been executing not only for education but across all sectors of the economy.”
