NYSC announces each batch’s passing-out date only a few weeks ahead. Here are the 2026 dates so far:

The pre-POP window typically covers final clearance sign-off and Job Advisory and Counselling (JAC) sessions run by NYSC and partner agencies.

How Certificates Are Distributed Now (LGA Level)

For every 2026 batch so far, NYSC has held a “low-key” passing-out: Certificates of National Service are distributed across all Local Government Areas rather than at one central parade. To collect your certificate, present:

• Your final clearance letter from your employer (PPA)
• Clearance from your CDS inspector
• A valid ID card (your NYSC ID card)

NYSC POP Events

1. 3 weeks before POP

• Release of passing-out corps members by employers
• Sensitization of corps members to job creation and opportunities after service, done at the Local Government level with NYSC/NDE officers.

2. Final Week

• Registration and clearance of corps members by Local Government Inspectors
• Signing of final clearance by Zonal Inspectors
• Administration of the questionnaire (Form 4B) to 30% of the passing-out corps members.

3. POP Day

• Distribution of Certificates of National Service to deserving corps members at Local Government level.

How to Prepare for Your NYSC POP

Follow these guidelines so you are not sanctioned or turned back on POP day:

1. Actively Participate in all NYSC Activities

Three things count throughout your service year: your work at your PPA (primary place of assignment), your weekly CDS (Community Development Service), and your monthly clearance at your NYSC Local Government office.

You must show you have been faithful in all three before you can pass out. If not, your service year may be extended or other sanctions applied.

2. Get Final Clearance From Your PPA

The first stage of final clearance happens at your PPA, about three weeks before POP. Without the signed clearance letter from your workplace, you are not eligible for the POP or your discharge certificate.

3. Final Clearance by Your LGI and ZI

Your Local Government Inspector (LGI) and Zonal Inspector (ZI) must then clear you. They sign the form from your workplace plus additional forms such as the 4B and CDS clearance forms.

Documents needed for final clearance:

1. Final clearance letter from your PPA
2. NYSC ID card
3. Posting letter

Any corps member not cleared by the local government and zonal office will not be issued a certificate.

4. Make Necessary Payments for Your Final CDS Project and POP Magazines

The POP magazine contains photographs of all passing-out corps members in the state, arranged by local government.

5. Attend the Final Meetings for POP

Meetings are scheduled before POP for all passing-out corps members. Attend — key information about certificate distribution is shared there, and some corps members have been refused certificates for missing it.

6. Wear Your Complete NYSC Uniform

POP has traditionally required the complete 7/7 uniform: NYSC cap, crested vest, khaki jacket and trousers, belt, jungle boots and socks. NYSC has not published updated dress-code guidance for the new low-key LGA-level format, so go in your complete, well-ironed uniform unless your LGI directs otherwise — corps members have been sanctioned for breaking the dress code.

7. Go With Your NYSC ID Card and Arrive on Time

Arrive early and follow all instructions. Your ID card is vital — it is checked before you receive your discharge certificate. Carry a pen too; you will sign for your certificate.

Lost, Unclaimed or Incorrect Certificates

• Unclaimed: two weeks after passing-out, unclaimed certificates are returned to the NYSC Headquarters Certification Division. Contact your State Secretariat for guidance before travelling.
• Lost or damaged: NYSC does not reprint certificates. You can obtain a Letter of Confirmation instead — you will need a police report/extract, a court affidavit, a letter of introduction from the state where you served, and a copy of the lost certificate if available.
• Error on the certificate: return it to your State Certification Officer. Errors traceable to the details you submitted at orientation are corrected at HQ with a letter of introduction from your State Secretariat, a handwritten application and a valid ID.
