Six-week orientation camp (three phases)

The orientation course moves from three weeks to six weeks, split into three two-week phases:

• Weeks 1–2: civic responsibility, national values, patriotism and leadership development.
• Weeks 3–4: career mapping, financial literacy, basic accounting, business planning and access to finance.
• Weeks 5–6: specialised, hands-on training in your chosen stream.

Military-style drills and parades during camp are being dropped, though the military will still provide security for corps members and camps nationwide.

No more Passing Out Parade (POP)

The traditional Passing Out Parade is being retired. The end-of-service event is being redesigned and renamed a formal graduation ceremony rather than a military parade. (Until the new law takes effect, current corps members still complete the existing POP — see our NYSC POP guide.)

Civilian Director-General

For the first time since 1973, the NYSC will be headed by a civilian Director-General (supported by Executive Directors), instead of a serving military officer of brigadier-general rank.

New uniform and security-based postings

A redesigned uniform “that reflects professionalism and national pride” replaces the kit worn since 1973. Postings will also follow a risk-sensitive deployment policy, taking the security situation of each area into account before corps members are sent to their places of primary assignment.

What it means for current corps members

If you are already serving or have finished NYSC, nothing changes for you — the reforms are not retroactive. If you are a prospective corps member, the new structure will apply to you only after the NYSC Act is amended and an implementation date is announced. Frequently Asked Questions

When do the NYSC reforms take effect?

No date has been fixed. The reforms were approved on 29 June 2026 but require an amendment to the NYSC Act first; the Federal Government has directed that the amendment process begin. Implementation dates for specific batches are expected to follow.

Has the NYSC Passing Out Parade been cancelled?

It is being phased out. POP will be replaced by a graduation ceremony once the reforms take effect. Corps members serving under the current rules still complete the existing POP for now.

When Is the Next NYSC Batch?

The batch currently in camp is 2026 Batch B Stream 2: camp opened Wednesday 5 August 2026 and closes Tuesday 25 August 2026, as announced by NYSC on 20 July 2026 through its Director of Information and Public Relations. The Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, specifically advised corps members against travelling at night to camp.

The next batch after this one is 2026 Batch C — NYSC has not announced its timetable yet (ignore blogs quoting exact November dates; nothing is official until NYSC publishes it).

What to do now:

• Mobilized for Batch B Stream 2? Call-up letters went live on the portal on Monday 3 August — print yours if you paid for online printing, otherwise collect it from your institution — then report to camp as soon as possible. Camp registration does not stay open for the full three weeks, so do not delay.
• No call-up number on your dashboard? You were likely not mobilized in this stream — confirm your name is on your institution’s approved senate list, then expect the Batch C window.
• Fresh graduates: the next full registration window (for Batch C) is expected around September/October 2026 — it will be announced on the portal.

NYSC 2026 Mobilization Calendar (Batch A, B & C)

Dates below are only “official” once NYSC publishes them. Camps run simultaneously in all 36 states and the FCT.

Note: the Batch B Stream 1 camp in Niger State was postponed (the Paiko orientation camp suffered storm damage) — affected corps members were camped 7–27 July 2026 at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Kubwa (FCT), instead.

How NYSC Mobilization Works

The mobilization timetable is organised in stages, and each batch passes through the same sequence:

1. Senate list upload — your institution submits its Senate/Academic Board approved list to NYSC. Check the senate list guide.
2. Online registration — you create a profile on portal.nysc.org.ng, pick your preferred states, and (for foreign-trained graduates) book physical verification. The 2026 Batch B window ran 12 March–11 April 2026.
3. Call-up letters — deployment is released and you print your call-up letter from the portal (or collect it at your institution if you didn’t pay for online printing).
4. Orientation camp — the three-week camp on the dates in the calendar above.
5. PPA, CDS and clearance — the rest of the service year, ending with POP.

NYSC Camp Registration Requirements 2026

The documents below are mandatory. Ensure you bring them along to the NYSC camp.

Final-year ID card

You must bring your original final-year ID card and two (2) copies to the NYSC camp. Stop by your school’s Directorate of Students’ Affairs and ask for a “final year ID card.” Most schools issue a student identification card, which NYSC also accepts.

Please take note that NYSC does not recognise departmental ID cards.

Statement of result (B.Sc or HND)

You must provide your original statement of results along with photocopies. Do not travel to camp without it — you will not complete registration.

Foreign-trained graduates must show their original certificates. If you attended a polytechnic, bring both your ND and HND statements of results.

Prospective corps members (PCMs) in healthcare professions (doctors, pharmacists, optometrists, etc.) must also bring proof of completed internship or housemanship and a valid certificate from their professional council (e.g., MDCN, Pharmacy Council).

NYSC call-up letter

Bring the original of your call-up letter and four photocopies. It becomes available on the portal a few days before camp opens. Do not laminate it — camp officials will reject a laminated call-up letter.

NYSC green card

The green card is the print-out slip from your online registration. Bring the original and four (4) photocopies, printed in colour. Do not laminate it either.

Recent passport photographs

Bring eight (8) copies of your passport photo with a white or off-white background.

Medical certificate of fitness

Bring two (2) copies of a medical certificate of fitness issued by a government or military hospital in Nigeria.

What If My Name Is Not on the Senate List?

If your name is missing, it is usually an institution-side issue. Contact your school’s Directorate of Students’ Affairs to correct your records before registration closes — your school then forwards the corrected list to NYSC. Full details and common causes are in our approved senate list guide.

When is the next NYSC batch going to camp?

The 2026 Batch B Stream 2 camp is currently running, 5–25 August 2026, in all 36 states and the FCT. The next intake is Batch C — its timetable has not been announced; registration is expected around September/October 2026.

How many NYSC batches are there in a year?

Three batches — A, B and C — each split into Stream 1 and Stream 2. That gives roughly six camp intakes per year, spread from January to December.

What is the NYSC monthly allowance in 2026?

The Federal Government pays corps members ₦77,000 monthly, up from ₦33,000, in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. Some employers (PPAs) add their own stipend on top.

How do I register for NYSC?

Can I do NYSC after age 30?

Travel Tips to NYSC Orientation Camps

Prospective corp members should take note of these safety tips as they travel to their respective NYSC Orientation Camps:

1. Every successful voyage begins with a travel itinerary. PCMs are urged to make sufficient travel preparations before embarking on their journey. As a result, you must guarantee and double-check that you have packed all of the necessary documents that will be needed at the time of registration.
2. Thoroughly research your destinations before departing.
3. Under no circumstances should you board a car on the side of the road because of a supposedly appealing low fare. It is the road to disaster. As a result of such carelessness, numerous people have become victims of armed robbers, kidnappers, and ritualists. You should only board vehicles from authorized parks.
4. Keep your journey time in mind. Journeys must be planned so that you get to your destination by 6 p.m. at the latest. Please break the travel if you are unable to arrive at your destination by the specified time.
5. Avoid unneeded debate/discussion on topics such as politics and religion, among others. You may unintentionally offend someone. Keep your thoughts to yourself.
6. Be nice, but don’t put too much faith in individuals, and don’t be overly loud when answering phone calls to avoid accidentally disclosing information that could put you in danger.

Other tips include:

1. Keep an eye on your drinking habits. Alcohol dulls your perception. Always maintain your sobriety.
2. Only bring what you need for the adventure. Don’t overload yourself with tasks.
3. Normal attire is required. Avoid overdressing. Don’t, on the other hand, dress shabbily because you’ll stick out in either case.
4. Please keep a cautious eye on your personal belongings. It is recommended that you bring your important documents (certificates, international passports, etc.) with you.
5. Keep valuables out of your back pocket, as this is the pickpocket’s first port of call. It’s safer to keep your money in your front pocket.

Here is everything you need to know about the NYSC clearance, both monthly and final.

Serving corps members must complete monthly clearance to receive the monthly Federal Government allowance.

The Local Government Inspector (LGI) completes the clearance at the Local Government Secretariat.

The monthly clearance verifies that you are still serving and have not absconded.

The clearance period lasts ten days, from the first to the tenth of the month. Your clearance status for each month will be uploaded to your dashboard.

Your monthly clearance dashboard looks like this (see the image below):

If you have been cleared for a month and discover that your status is “Absent,” you should see your Local Government Inspector (LGI) as soon as possible.

Requirements for NYSC Monthly Clearance

The major requirement for your NYSC clearance is a signed clearance letter from your PPA. Remember to go to your local government office every month on your scheduled day, dressed on your 6/7 or 7/7 with your NYSC ID card.

Do not forget your clearance letter, which has been signed by your PPA.

The schedule for the monthly clearance is done by the LGI, and most times, different batches have separate days. Connect with your friends or CLO for information about your day.

How to Check Your NYSC LGA Clearance on the Portal

As soon as you complete your NYSC biometric clearance, your LGA monthly clearance status should appear on your dashboard. However, it is dependent on the network in the area.

The following are ways to verify your NYSC monthly clearance status online:

1. Go to the NYSC portal.
2. Log in to your dashboard with your password and e-mail address.
3. Select “LGA Clearance.”
4. It would display the list of months you have taken part in the NYSC monthly clearance and your status, which can either be ‘Present’ or ‘Absent.’

NYSC Final Clearance

The last stage before your NYSC POP is final clearance from your local government.

Your PPA provides you with the final clearance letter. The local government office will also give you the final NYSC clearance documents (Forms 2A, 2B and 2C). These documents must be duly signed by your PPA and submitted back to the local government office.

Also, your CDS Officer (CDS Coordinator) will sign and clear you for payment of CDS dues and levies, Foundation Form, and Magazine. Your CDS Officer or Coordinator will take your final clearance to the LGI and ZI offices for stamping and return it to you.

Your final clearance document is what you will use for your final biometrics. When you complete your biometrics, the officer will sign and stamp it for final approval.

In order to provide a full record of the work, conduct, and capabilities of each member and to assist the Directorate Headquarters in giving a correct assessment of each member at the end of the service year, the following reports shall be made for each corps member:

• A record of the Orientation Assessment documented on NYSC Form 2(A)
• A quarterly record of Primary Assignment Assessment by the Corps Employer documented on NYSC Form 2(B); and
• A record of Secondary Assignment Assessment by the Community Development Inspector as documented on NYSC Form 2(C).

What Forms 2A, 2B and 2C Contain

You do not fill these forms yourself — each one is completed by the officials assessing you:

• Form 2A — Orientation assessment. Scores your conduct during camp (parade, punctuality, discipline, teamwork). Completed by your platoon instructors at the orientation course.
• Form 2B — Primary assignment report. A quarterly confidential report your corps employer (PPA) completes on your punctuality, devotion to duty and overall performance, endorsed by the Zonal Inspector and State Coordinator.
• Form 2C — CDS report. Assesses your contribution to your Community Development Service project, completed by the project supervisor and CD Inspector.

Together, these three reports give NYSC a complete record of your service year. They must all be in place before your final clearance is approved and you can collect your discharge certificate.

Do you seek to leave the NYSC Orientation Camp on a temporary basis? You will need to write an official exeat letter seeking permission from the NYSC State Coordinator. In this article, we provide you with a sample and guide on how to write an exeat letter.

NYSC Exeat Letter

An exeat letter is simply a letter of permission allowing an NYSC member to leave the NYSC Orientation camp.

The NYSC orientation camp is a 21-day exercise to train corp members for the demands of the service year. You can only seek to leave the orientation camp before the end of exercise only on health grounds. And as such, you must attach a medical report showing you are not fit for the orientation activities.

The exeat letter is a formal letter written to the State Coordinator through the Camp Director, Head of Camp Clinic, Head of Platoon Instructors and your Platoon Instructor.

It always has the title, “Application for an Exeat on Health Grounds.”

You must explicitly state your name and state code, as well as your health challenge that demands urgent attention (with an attached medical report). Also included in the exeat letter is the duration of your stay out of the orientation camp and the location you are going to for the necessary treatment.

You must also attach photocopies of your certificate format, bank form, and doctor’s report.

Make sure you sign with your full name and include your phone number.

Note that the NYSC Bye-Laws state:

• “Not leave orientation camp or absent himself from any official activity without the written consent of the State Coordinator but when absent from his duties on account of illness, ensure that such absences is covered by an “Excuse Duty Certificate” issued by a medical doctor then on duty at the camp
• Any member who leaves the camp without the permission from the State Coordinator shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to be decamped and sent out of camp.

What Is an NYSC Exeat Card?

The exeat letter and the exeat card are two halves of the same process. The letter is your application; the exeat card (some camps call it an exeat slip or gate pass) is what camp officials issue you once the State Coordinator approves your request. You present it to the soldiers at the camp gate when leaving and again when you return. Keep it on you for the entire time you are out of camp — leaving without an approved exeat is what the Bye-Laws punish, and the card is your proof of permission.
