Alex Otti Orders Search for NOUN Study Centre Site in Aba
Governor Alex Otti has directed officials to begin searching for a temporary site for a National Open University of Nigeria study centre in Aba. The decision followed a courtesy visit by the vice-chancellor, Uduma Uduma, at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA.
According to spokesman Ambrose Gowong, the visit was aimed at seeking policy direction for establishing the proposed centre. Consequently, the governor moved quickly to give clear instructions.
Officials Begin Process for Temporary Site
Following the meeting, the governor directed the commissioner for tertiary education and the Greater Aba Development Authority to take immediate steps. They are to identify a temporary location while plans for a permanent structure are underway.
Meanwhile, coordination between relevant agencies is expected to begin without delay. This approach, therefore, ensures that the project gains early momentum.
Aba’s Importance and Role of Digital Learning
The governor described Aba as a major commercial hub that should host a NOUN study centre. He stressed the growing importance of flexible learning systems.
“In view of the role NOUN is playing in advancing education, it is imperative that Aba has a study centre,” he said.
Furthermore, he noted that open and distance learning has improved significantly. He cited platforms like Google Meet and Zoom as key tools enhancing knowledge sharing.
Commitment to Education Development
In addition, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education. He highlighted efforts in teacher recruitment, training, and retraining across the state.
He also assured the university of full government support for establishing the Aba centre. Moreover, he directed the commissioner to liaise with the NOUN Umuahia Study Centre.
The aim is to identify areas where the state can assist in improving facilities. Overall, the development signals a broader effort to expand access to quality education in Abia State.
