McPherson University, Seriki-Sotayo, Ajebo, Ogun State, has added another feather to its cap. The National Universities Commission has granted the institution full accreditation for 10 undergraduate programmes. These were presented during the commission’s October/November 2025 accreditation exercise.
Founded in 2012 by the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, the university has steadily built its academic reputation over the years. It was licensed as the 49th private university and the 121st university in Nigeria overall. Since then, it has consistently worked toward expanding and strengthening its academic offerings. This latest accreditation is, therefore, a natural progression of that trajectory.
Tokunbo Olakunle, the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, broke the news in an official statement on Monday.
What the Commission Said and How It Happened
Olakunle revealed that the NUC communicated its decision through formal correspondence. He stated, “The approval was conveyed in a letter signed by the Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission.”
The process leading to this outcome was neither sudden nor superficial. Rather, it involved multiple visits and rigorous evaluations by different NUC teams. As Olakunle explained, “The accreditation followed a comprehensive assessment exercise carried out by different teams from the Commission during visits to the university in October and November 2025.”
The 10 programmes that earned full accreditation cut across several disciplines. They are Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Public Health, History and Diplomatic Studies, Information Technology, Law, Biotechnology, and Economics. The accreditation, Olakunle confirmed, covers a period of five years.
Building on Previous Successes
This achievement does not stand alone. It fits into a broader pattern of regulatory recognition that the university has accumulated over time. In 2024, for instance, the NUC granted McPherson full accreditation for seven programmes, namely Medical Laboratory Science, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Mass Communication. All seven received excellent scores in that exercise.
Taken together, these successive rounds of accreditation paint a picture of an institution that takes quality assurance seriously. Each cycle demands fresh documentation, infrastructure assessment, and faculty evaluation. Passing them consistently is no small feat for any university, private or public.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Reaction
The university’s leadership did not take the news quietly. Professor Francis Igbasan, the Vice-Chancellor, addressed the university community directly and used the moment to recognise those who made it possible.
“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, who disclosed the development to the university community, commended members of staff for their dedication and commitment, describing the achievement as a testament to the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence,” Olakunle concluded.
For students currently enrolled in these programmes, the accreditation brings added assurance. It confirms that their qualifications meet national standards. For prospective students, it offers a compelling reason to consider McPherson University as a credible academic destination in southwestern Nigeria.
