The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has launched admissions for its Post-Basic Nursing programmes. This opportunity targets qualified nurses eager to advance their skills. Moreover, it focuses on key specialized areas.
Available Programmes and Duration
The UPTH College of Nursing Sciences offers two main options. These include Paediatric Nursing and Accident and Emergency Nursing. Each programme lasts 12 calendar months. Consequently, successful candidates earn a Post-Basic Diploma. Applicants should choose based on their career interests. In addition, the process covers both fields together.
Key Admission Requirements
Candidates must meet strict criteria for eligibility. First, they need SSCE with at least five credit passes in not more than two sittings. Required subjects include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. UPTH stated that Biology cannot be substituted with Health Science. Candidates can combine WAEC and NECO results when conditions allow.
Furthermore, professional standards apply. Applicants must be registered as a Nurse or Midwife. They also need a minimum of one year post-qualification working experience. However, candidates with a B.NSc and PGDE qualification will have an added advantage during the admission process. Thus, preparation is essential.
Application Process and Selection Criteria
Selection depends on several factors. It considers academic qualifications, entrance examination performance, and other stated admission conditions. The exam uses a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. Therefore, thorough preparation helps candidates succeed.
