Edo State University, Iyamho (ESUI), formerly Edo University Uzairue, has opened applications for its Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme for the 2026/2027 academic session, according to the admission portal on the university’s official website.
The JUPEB programme is a one-year foundation course that leads directly into 200 Level (the second year of a degree) without candidates needing to sit the JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). It runs for a minimum of one academic session, split into two semesters, during which candidates study three subjects tied to the course they intend to pursue before sitting the national JUPEB examination.
Who Can Apply
Candidates need a minimum of five O’Level credit passes, including English Language, from no more than two examination sittings.
Applicants for Medicine and Surgery are held to a stricter standard: all five required credits, including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, must come from a single sitting.
Candidates still awaiting their O’Level results may also apply, though they will need to provide the results before admission is finalised.
What a JUPEB Certificate Actually Gets You
This is the part many admission adverts leave out: passing JUPEB does not automatically guarantee 200 Level admission on its own it guarantees eligibility, based on a points system the university applies to Direct Entry candidates. Per the university’s undergraduate admissions page:
- Medicine and Surgery, and Law: a minimum of 16 points.
- Nursing: a minimum of 10 points, with no failing grade.
- All other programmes: a minimum of 5 points, with no failing grade.
- Candidates who fall short of 5 points but score at least 2, with no more than one failing grade, may still be considered for 100 Level entry except into Medicine, Nursing, or Law.
JUPEB results remain valid for three years from the date of issue, and are also recognised for Direct Entry at other JUPEB-affiliated universities across Nigeria, not just ESUI.

Note: Some Engineering options widely advertised elsewhere for the general UTME/Direct Entry route, such as Mining and Production Engineering, along with Cyber Security and Software Engineering, are not currently listed on the university’s dedicated JUPEB admission page. Applicants interested in those courses should confirm directly with the admissions office before applying.

Candidates choose their three A-Level subjects based on their intended track:

- Social Sciences: Business Studies, Accounting, Economics, Government
- Arts/Law: Literature-in-English, Government, Christian Religious Studies
Fees
The university’s JUPEB fee schedule lists four separate charges, not just an application and tuition fee:
- Application Fee: ₦20,000
- Acceptance Fee: ₦50,000
- Learning Management System Fee: ₦35,000
- Tuition Fee: ₦150,000
Students requiring on-campus housing pay separately for accommodation, with hostel rates ranging from roughly ₦110,000 for a shared bunk bed to ₦250,000 for a premium single room, depending on the hall and bed type.

Applications are submitted through the university’s dedicated JUPEB portal at edouniversity.edu.ng, under the “JUPEB Admission” section, rather than the general undergraduate portal. Applicants should read the admission requirements carefully before beginning registration and should complete the process using their own personal email address and phone number so they can be reached about their application status.
As with all Nigerian university admission cycles, applicants are strongly advised to pay fees only through the official channels listed on the university’s website, and never to individuals or private accounts.
