Vice Chancellor Expresses Gratitude

Reacting to the two disbursements, the Vice Chancellor of Sokoto State University, Professor M. B. Yerima, expressed appreciation on behalf of the institution and the students.

He said the university “received ₦23,908,200 on July 4, 2025, to cover the registration fees of 471 students under Batch B, and another ₦74,774,000 on August 21, 2025, to cover 1,455 students under Batch C.”

Professor Yerima assured that the funds “will be disbursed strictly for the purpose for which they were intended,” while thanking NELFUND for its continuous support to higher education.

Wider Impact

The Sokoto disbursement adds to NELFUND’s expanding reach across the country. As of February 2025, the agency had disbursed over ₦22.7 billion to more than 215,000 students nationwide.

Established under the Student Loans Act, 2024, NELFUND was created to reduce financial barriers in higher education by covering tuition and registration fees for eligible Nigerian students.

Relief for Students

For Sokoto State University, the combined ₦98.7 million support is expected to ease the financial burden on nearly 2,000 students and their families. The acknowledgements from the Vice Chancellor underscore both the urgency of the intervention and the relief it brings to the university community.
